Antar-Agni is a perspective, one that focuses on two extremes, to break away and yet embrace the mundane. It bases itself on a restless curiosity to explore human nature through aesthetics and clothing. It believes in sustainability and works with Indian textiles.
With a fascination for architecture and strong belief in naturalism the design philosophy builds its own breed of urban wear and updated classics that balance the contradictions of structure versus flow, natural forms versus tailored asymmetry and gender. Antar-Agni is defined as: post-new age X naturalist.
The label sees the fabric like other raw materials that have its own character and nature, waiting to be explored. The focus is on the strain of process and method, and that the clothing is just one result; as the label merely helps the material speak its own language.
Utilizing a keen sense of observation, respect for natural forms and an awareness that is always on lookout for unrehearsed moments of synchronicity, Ujjawal harnesses his instinctive knowing to create his post new age X naturalist aesthetic.
Since 2014, when the brand was conceived and made its debut at Lakmè Fashion Week in Mumbai, it has gone on to achieve many accolades. In 2018, Antar-Agni won the regional International Woolmark Prize. Won the Country award at the International Fashion showcase organized by British Fashion Council along with four other Indian homegrown brands in 2017. Antar – Agni also won the designer of the year award ELLE 2016 and the best young menswear label by Grazia in 2015. Ujjawal was a part of the Forbes India 30 under 30 list 2017 and was named as one of the ’50 Most Influential Indians’ by GQ India in 2016.
