Launching this year’s edition of the Brooklyn Mall Face of Fashion search, South Africa’s only competition to find new models, South African Fashion Week (SAFW), director Lucilla Booyzen says that top models have an IT factor that allows the camera or the runway to access a unique spiritedness that lights up the world.
“It is a quality that can make a brand come alive or inspire a designer’s creative vision. It is an inner vitality that is much more compelling than physical good looks.”
Since its inception in 2019, the competition that drew a record seven hundred online entries in 2022, has catapulted remarkable new talents onto the local and international scene.
“Models are key when it comes to the marketing of fashion. Without the models there will be no shows, fashion spreads, media coverage and none of the exceptional social media buzz generated about the new designer collections,” explains Booyzen.

• You must be a South African Citizen. You will have to present your South African ID or driver’s license at the judging.
• You must be between the ages of 16 and 23 years.
• You cannot belong to any model agency in South Africa.
• You must be the correct height as stipulated below.

FEMALES:
• All entrants heights will be measured, and requirements checked before going through to the judging.
• You will, unfortunately, not be allowed to judged, if you are shorter than 1.74 meters, so ensure you are measured correctly before you enter online - without shoes.
• Models are natural. No heavy make-up - no dark eyes or red lips; no false eye lashes or long false nails
• Please wear a short dress or skirt, so that the judges can see your legs. NO JEANS are allowed. Wear high heels that you can walk in
• Natural hair. No wigs or weaves to be worn. No big earrings, nose rings, etc.
• Long hair must be tied back neatly - No bleached or dyed hair.
MALES:
• All entrants heights will be measured, and requirements checked before going through to the judging.
• You will, unfortunately, not be allowed to be judged, if you are shorter than 1.83 meters, so ensure you are measured correctly before you enter online - without shoes.
• Please dress neatly - wear closed shoes. NO flipflops to be worn.
• Models are natural. No make-up on guys, earrings, nose rings, or chunky chains, etc.
• No bleached or dyed hair.
