Emily Mutombo is a Congolese-born fashion designer and founder of Emelia D, a brand rooted in faith, heritage, and purpose. Inspired by the biblical story of Dorcas, she creates garments that uplift and empower. After relocating to South Africa in 2012, Emily pursued fashion studies and launched Emelia D, in 2019, while still a student. She paused during the pandemic to complete her Diploma and Advanced Diploma, relaunching in 2022 with just R3000 and no external funding.
Today, Emelia D is a thriving label with a studio, team, and growing community. Her work celebrates African identity through bold colours, intricate prints, and elegant craftsmanship. Featured in Vogue and stocked at iconic retailers, Emily’s designs honour heritage with comfort, joy, and meaning.
