Sifiso Kunene is an artist and fashion designer from Nkandla in Kwazulu-Natal. Currently the chief creative director, founder and men's artistic director at Messrsbasswood, he holds a diploma in fashion design. He did a year-long internship with a bespoke tailoring house in Durban.

His own art practise is inspired by ground-break designers Ozwald Boateng, Samuel Ross of luxury menswear brand A-COLD-WALL and the late Virgil Abloh.

Kunene's first body of work was presented at Design Indaba in 2017.

Launched in 2016, Messrsbasswood is a menswear label with a deep appreciation for streetwear culture and its capacity to articulate contemporary youth culture.

Collections are embedded with a recurrent back story which emphasises individuality and expressive design, underpinned by the practise and craftmanship of bespoke tailoring.
