Ephymol - A Signature Journey with South African Fashion Week

I first got to know Ephraim Molingoana - the creative force behind Ephymol, long before his label lit up the South African Fashion Week runway.  We met when he was a model and stylist, already admired for his incredible personal style.  From early on in his modeling career he was exposed to international fashion brands, giving him a natural understanding of global trends and quality.

It didn’t take long for Dion Chang and me to see the bigger picture:  Ephraim had all the qualities, creativity, and instinct to become a designer and a true role model in fashion. We encouraged him to take the leap, and in 2002 he staged his first show at SAFW.  This was an unforgettable debut that signaled the arrival of a bold new menswear voice.

From that first collection, Ephymol has consistently balanced tailoring with streetwise energy, transforming classic silhouettes into something proudly and distinctively South African.  Season after season he has used the SAFW platform to experiment and evolve, playing with fabrics, prints, and impeccable cuts that keep men’s fashion fresh and relevant.

What sets Ephymol apart is his remarkable commitment to growing young designers.  Over the years he has mentored many emerging talents, generously sharing his knowledge and giving them opportunities to learn from him.

He is also deeply immersed in understanding his market.  One story that stands out is how he once spent time with a friend who owns a taxi in Pretoria - riding along to hear what taxi commuters thought of his designs.  This hands-on research not only helped to get his name out there but also gave him priceless insight into what his clients really need and value.

Ephymol has grown from a daring newcomer into a label that resonates locally and internationally - always with integrity and purpose.

More than two decades later, our partnership continues to thrive.  Ephymol embodies creativity, courage, and commitment, proving that fashion can inspire and empower far beyond the runway.

From his very first show, Ephymol has brought an unmistakable energy to our runway.  Ephraim’s commitment to excellence and his ability to evolve with the times embody exactly what South African Fashion Week stands for.
